As you have most likely heard, American Airlines filed for bankruptcy (I know, old news) , while there is also some speculative talk of a merger happening in the future. Whatever the fate of this airline might be, designer Anna Kovecses created a project entitled "Experimental ID for American Airlines." Isn't it interesting? I really like her use of colors and the constancy she shows throughout the project. It doesn't look like the other domestic airlines' branding work. With so much focus on creating identities for new or fictitious enterprises, I love the idea of taking an existing company, with so much history, and giving it a new identity at just the time it needs to be redefined.
PS: Do you watch Mad Men? (I can't get enough of it and their historical references). Advertising for American Airlines reminds me of the episode when Sterling Cooper goes after the American Airlines account after the crash of Flight 1 in 1962. The New York Times write an article about it here.
